SOTENI International and friends spent an evening with

Christopher Opondo, SOTENI Kenya Board Member

and

Edward Wanyonyi, SOTENI Kenya Programme Manager.

We heard firsthand how SOTENI is breaking the cycle of HIV/AIDS

in SOTENI's four Villages of Hope in Kenya.

Traditional African entertainment was provided while guests enjoyed light refreshments and beverages.

SOTENI would like to thank the host family,

Daniel and Linette Kuy, and all those who attended.

Your support is greatly appreciated!

On behalf of the entire SOTENI International Board of Trustees and the SOTENI Director, we would like to congratulate Isaac Nalunga on his very successful completion of the KMLTTB exam and his diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences. His outstanding performance on the exam makes us proud.  He received one of the highest scores in the country.  It also supports our knowledge that the people of SVH-Mbakalo are getting the very best laboratory services.

His skills as a Medical Technologist are truly a gift to SOTENI.

Great news for the people of SVH-Mbakalo and SVH-Mituntu, SOTENI International has been given $37,465 to help restart its proven AIDS Barefoot Doctors (ABD) Program at those two sites.

We are grateful to the MAC AIDS Fund for the one-year grant, announced in March 2008. It will help reinforce training, strengthen skills, and deploy six ABDs to each Village. Those paraprofessionals will provide home-based health care and support for persons infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Each month, each ABD will make at least 20 home visits -- and will lead two group education sessions for local young people.

The program strengthens the ability of families and communities to care for their own while it employs local people, some of whom are AIDS orphans themselves.

I returned from Kenya in June where SOTENI participated in a Medical Camp in SVH-Mituntu area.  Over 7,000 people particpated in the day and over 3,000 people were given medical services.  SOTENI International was able to give two large boxes of medical supplies through a donation from MedWish.  THANK YOU MEDWISH!  Volunteers, Pat McLarney (nurse from Connecticut) and Emily Marsh helped for the day.   SOTENI Programme Manager, Edward Wanyonyi and myself also were part of the wonderful event.
